About the event
Introducing The Death Studies Podcast Podcast Club!
You’ve heard of a book club, a movie club, how about a podcast club? Join others to discuss selected episodes of The Death Studies Podcast. Beginning in 2021, the hosts of this podcast have been interviewing researchers, practitioners, and academics from different parts of the world about the changing theories and data in death and dying research. Experts from disciplines like philosophy, cultural anthropology, English literature, religion, psychology, and more share what they are learning regarding a wide range of topics related to death and dying.
The podcast creators have been working with us to curate a list of episodes and talking points, an exciting and unique feature of this endeavor! Each month participants of the podcast club will listen to a selected episode ahead of time and be prepared to discuss the issues under investigation. These meetings will be facilitated by local death workers. Move beyond personal beliefs to engage in emerging ideas about death, dying, bereavement, and loss. Share what was intriguing, what left you with questions, and what you want to know more about.
This month's podcast episode will be Professor Beverley Clack on philosophy of religion, failure, loss, neoliberalism, thinking about death and not freaking out, women, gender and good public conversations about difficult topics. Tune in here!
A Death Fest Side Quest, the podcast club is a joint venture of Woven Roots Collective, Hospice of the Piedmont, and Panorama Natural Burial. This discussion will happen every 3rd Thursday of the month from 5:30-7 pm in the Parlor of the Unitarian Universalist Church. Just a note, this week only we will be meeting in Lower Hall 3 instead of the Parlor. We hope you will join us!
The Death Studies Podcast Podcast Club will meet next on Thursday, June 18 at the same location. Details here.
This event is open to the public. Adults and older teens welcome. Please note that sensitive material may be discussed.
