About the event

It's time for our annual Rock Walk and Talk, a now yearly hit!

Join Haley Gannon, geology major and rock fanatic, for a wooded hike through the burial ground in search of rock outcrops and more. Haley's relationship to local geology is infused with knowledge, experience, and heart. She will provide an overview of rock types and textures, information about how to identify them, and what it all means. She will offer a brief geological history of Appalachia, some of the details of which will astound you! All while teaching you tools and field methods for identifying rocks as you walk!

Haley has lived in the Charlottesville area since 2016. She is a graduate of William & Mary where she studied geology. She has immersed herself in geology since her graduation and has attended the Virginia Geological Field Conference numerous times. She considers herself a local nerd who loves hands-on outdoor education. And she is thrilled to share her love and knowledge of rocks with the PNB community.

We so hope you can join us for this sure-to-be fun and educational event.

This event is free and open to all! Children are absolutely welcome. In the event of weather, please check your email for updates. We'll go ahead with light rain or flurries; heavy rain, freezing temperatures, or snow will cancel. Rain date is February 2, 1pm-3pm.

Additional details will be provided by email. We're so excited to see you there!
