Native Plant Walk

We are so excited to once again be offering  one of our most popular events to date.

Please join us for a tour of the burial ground in searh of plants native to the area with Hummingbird Hill Native Plant Nursery. You'll learn the names and features of many plants native to central Virginia, in addition to information about their preferred habitats and how to encourage their propagation.

The land that the burial ground currently sits on has served many roles, from forest, to residence, to hayfield, and more. In such varied terrain that has undergone numerous disturbances, it is common to find native and non-native plants in addition to invasive species that tend to crowd out the terrain, all living amongst each other. Our goal is to work towards recovering and enhancing the health and vitatlity of our forest and meadow ecosystems through the propagation of native plants. We'd be thrilled to have you be a part of this process by coming and learning from the incredibly knowledgeable founders of Hummingbird Hill Native Plant Nursery!

Dress for the weather, carry water, and prepare for a light hike through uneven terrain. And feel free to bring along a journal or a camera to document the experience!
